I did a search for FPGA development boards and found that all roads lead to Nallatech through hidden keywords with the names of their competitors. Is this a good way to do business ? I though "passing off" was a thing of the past and these days the realm of the sex web site. LewArticle: 32177
Hi, I just compiled a pipelined multiplier (Variable Parallel Virtex Multiplier v1.0.2) out of the Xilinx CoreGen with FPGA Compiler 2 (v3.4). According to the Xilinx Data Sheet it can do up to 143MHz for a 16x16 multiplication - the FPGA compiler reports a maximum frequency of 26MHz (more than 5 times less). Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong there? Thanks, AndreasArticle: 32178

I've been compiling designs targeted at a EPM7128S for months with no problems (I'm not sure if this was with the Quartus fitter, but I definitely hadn't turned it off). I recently tried compiling a small test design targeted at an Acex 1K30 and had to turn the Quartus fitter off or it would crash. ? I'm waiting for the new version of Quartus which should be able to target the Acex family to see if that's any better (I think this is just out). Nial.Article: 32179
Hello, Has anyone had experience with windows 2000 and the flexlm license managed. I can not get it to read my ethernet card address, (not IP) , I use to have win 95 on my computer but upgraded to win 2000. It use to work before. I have been to the globe trotter web site, but I am not sure what to do. I have maybe a dozen copies of lmutil ,lmgrd and lmtools. I don't know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTY the tool venders have not been able to solve my problem for me. Thanks David ColsonArticle: 32180
Andreas - Cores that are instantiated by CoreGen do not need nor use synthesis to be implemented. So I find your statement "Compiled...with FPGA Compiler 2..." to be very puzzling. In addition, there are newer versions available for download from the IP center at xilinx.com. Perhaps you should consult the Coregen FAQ at support.xilinx.com? Are there any providers of data compression IP for FPGA's? I'm interested in implementing ALDC or something like it. Mark BaertArticle: 32182

Cae vendors like to torture their best customers license games. I am using many flexlm licensed applications on my win2k machine. However, flexlm runs on a network server here, so I am immune to the effects of changes to my own machine. When you make any change to the machine running the flexlm server, you can easily cause a mismatch with your existing licence.dat file. Go to the vendor's web site and fill out a form requesting an updated license.dat file. --Mike TreselerArticle: 32183

I was able to compile Russell's code with no problems, on a w2K machine. I'm wondering if there is some subtle issue with W9x machines, perhaps OS-level parameter or file location declarations. Anyone out there able to correlate MAX+2 go/no-go to NT vs. W9x differences? -- Bob Elkind, fpga design/consulting Nial Stewart wrote: > Russell Shaw wrote: > > > > To follow up more, i just deleted the total win95B installation and > > re-installed. I tried the same acex design on my pc with w2k, and it works ok now. Obviously not much testing is done on win95/98. bob elkind wrote: > > I was able to compile Russell's code with no problems, on a w2K machine. > I'm wondering if there is some subtle issue with W9x machines, perhaps > OS-level parameter or file location declarations. > > Anyone out there able to correlate MAX+2 go/no-go to > NT vs. W9x differences? > > -- Bob Elkind, fpga design/consulting > > Nial Stewart wrote: > > > Russell Shaw wrote: > > > > > > To follow up more, i just deleted the total win95B installation and > > > re-installed. Ralph, There is no "better" language unless you start comparing nuances that are mostly the realm of the expert. In the end, either languages will suffice. There are some things to consider, though. For example, what tools are available for your use already? If your company has VHDL tools, then why choose Verilog? If your company has no tools, then make a decision based on quality and cost of new tools. If there are Verilog experts at your company, then you may want to choose Verilog so that you can take advantage of their expertise. If your regional area is populated with companies who mostly use Verilog, then why choose VHDL? Since both languages will do the job adequately, make a sound business and technical decision. Get your feet wet and comfortable with one language and then down the road, tackle the other one. It isn't that hard to switch from one to the other. Most likely you are driving it through some combinatorial logic. Put registers immediately before the multiplier inputs to have a shot at meeting the quoted performance. Also, make sure you set time constraints for your place and route, otherwise the tools just find a route without doing any optimization or checking for timing. Although I have upgraded to 2.1, I am still working on experiments from Practical Xilinx Designer Lab Book 1.5. In Chapter 4, "A Parity Generator for the XS40 Board", I am having problems with the schematic symbol for my VHDL program. The pins are (B7,0), I can not change these to individual pins, as shown in fig4.5. If anyone could help I would appreciate it.Article: 32193
Does anyone know what Xilinx FPGA's are supported by the Xilinx Student Edition 2.1i Foundation Series? I got it with my Xess XS40 board. It says that it only supports the XC4000 family limited to XC4010 and below and Virtex XCV50, but it doesn't say that they are the only support FPGA's. I am thinking of getting a Spartan-II board and want to make sure the Xilinx software will work with it.Article: 32194

A solution that is supposed to work is to make a loopback plug, (as far as understand just a rj45 plug with rx connected to tx) so that it thinks it's connected to a network. -Lasse > -- > Best regards, > ulf at atmel dot com > The contents of this message is intended to be my private opinion and > may or may not be shared by my employer Atmel Sweden > > "Dave Colson" <dscolson@rcn.com> skrev i meddelandet > news:3B2E2299.3544C147@rcn.com... > > Hello, > > > > > > Has anyone had experience with windows 2000 and the flexlm license > managed. Everyone tends to prefer 'their' language, but if you think you'll end up using both I think the consensus is that it's easier to move from VHDL to Verilog. Having said that VHDL probably has a slightly steeper learnign curve. Nial.Article: 32199
Hi! I have questions. I have Xilinx Foundation F1.3. I want to install this software on Win2000 system. I have no problem with instalation, but when I wanted to compile project I couldn't do it because I have error (bad Host id). I check my Host Id under the Win2k. It was different from Host Id under Win NT 4.0 - Why? I have license on number of net card (flexlm). What can I do to work on Win2k? Best regards, Tom
